As the implementation of the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) project continues, the Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere University of Agriculture and Technology (MJNUAT) has organized the workshop to engage its students on various ongoing HEET project activities.

The one-day workshop that was held at the MJNUAT Main Campus in Butiama was attended by students and various university leaders.

During the workshop, the students received detailed information regarding the HEET project, including visiting the project construction sites, and were also given explanations about the university’s vision, mission and core values.

The Social Focal person in the HEET project, Dr. Edward Mbwambo, stated that the university conducted the workshop with three main goals;

"Firstly, to inform students about all the key areas funded by the HEET project, including construction of infrastructures and curricula development. Secondly, to promote our new university that started to admit students during the academic year 2023/2024 and we expect to continue admitting students for the coming academic year 2024/2025. And the final goal is for students to get closer to their lecturers and increase interaction between lecturers and students," explained Dr. Mbwambo.

Mr. Erickson Kihundwa, a first year student pursuing Bachelor of Science degree in Aquaculture urged diploma holders and other Tanzanians to join the Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere University of Agriculture and Technology to realize their academic goals.

"This workshop has enabled me to see how the Tanzanian Government has invested in establishing this university, thus ensuring that all Tanzanians (form six graduates and diploma holders) have opportunities of joining the university and achieve their academic dreams in various fields, including agriculture and aquaculture," Mr. Kihundwa added.

The Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere University of Agriculture and Technology (MJNUAT) successfully started admitting students for the first time in the academic year 2023/2024 in two programmes: Bachelor of Science in Aquaculture and Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness, with these students currently based at the MJNUAT Oswald Mang’ombe Campus in Butiama.
