MJNUAT Directed to Incorporate Skills Education on its Ongoing Curricula Development Exercise
Following the policy change by the Government of Tanzania, the Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere University of Agriculture and Technology (MJNUAT) has been directed to develop its curricula in line with the current education policy that emphasizes on skills education for graduates.
Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. James Mdoe drew attention on this during his visit at the University on 20th May, 2024.
Prof. Mdoe stressed that curricula should be developed based on societal needs and technological advancements.
"MJNUAT curricula must meet societal needs and consider the current economic and technological trends," explained Prof. Mdoe.
He further emphasized that the current education policy brings changes to Tanzanian education and university’s curricula should align with these changes.
Additionally, Prof. James Mdoe commended the university for its progress in constructing the MJNUAT’s Main Campus at Butiama under the “Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET)” project.
"I am satisfied with the progress (of the construction) made so far and I have directed the university leadership (through the project consultant) to monitor the project activities daily, thereby ensuring that the ongoing work adheres to the construction schedule," emphasized Prof. Mdoe.
Previously, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Lesakit Mellau stated that MJNUAT aims at increasing student enrollment in the academic year 2024/2025.
"In the academic year 2024/2025, the university expects to enroll 300 students after completing the construction of a new dormitory for 112 students at the Oswald Mang'ombe Campus, and there are 118 additional rooms in the renovated old dormitory that are still vacant."
When the admission window for the academic year 2024/2025 opens on 15th July 2024, the Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere University of Agriculture and Technology plans to enroll students in its three degree programmes: Bachelor of Science in Aquaculture, Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness, and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.
