The construction of the campus of Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere University of Agriculture and Technology (MJNUAT) in Tabora region is expected to foster development and open up various economic opportunities to the inhabitants.

These remarks were made on Wednesday, November 1^st, 2023 by the District Commissioner of Tabora district, Hon. Lois Peter Bura, on behalf of the Regional Commissioner Hon. Batilda Buriani, at the stakeholder workshop organized by MJNUAT under the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) Project.

“The construction of MJNUAT’s campus in our region will boost development and create various economic and social opportunities by increasing interactions among a large number of people, thereby significantly enhancing the circulation of money, as well as boosting the economy of our districts and the region as a whole,” said Hon. Bura.

Hon. Bura thanked the university management for initiating and developing proposal that enabled securing fund from the World Bank for the construction of the university infrastructures in Mara and Tabora regions.

Meanwhile, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere University of Agriculture and Technology, Prof. Lesakit Mellau highlighted that the construction of the Tabora campus came after the government’s decision to establish universities or branches in each region.

“Therefore, MJNUAT was entrusted to establish the Information and Communication Technology and Business Campus in Tabora,” clarified Prof. Mellau.

The HEET project Coordinator, who is also the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Finance, and Administration), Prof. Msafiri Jackson outlined the opportunities associated with the project for the Tabora residents, including the construction of student hostels, staff houses, shops, a gas station, and cafeteria.

“As the university prepares the Master Plan for its area and the design of the buildings to be constructed under the plan, it is essential that the surrounding areas of the university are well planned,” Prof. Jackson requested the Tabora Municipality.

Prof. Msafiri Jackson expressed gratitude to the Tabora Regional and District leadership and Tabora Municipality not only for providing 150 acres of land for the university in Itonjanda ward, but also for conducting assessments in the provided area, and compensating the residents.

Additionally, the Regional Administrative Secretary of Tabora, Dr. John Mboya, urged the residents of Tabora Region to provide sincere cooperation to ensure the timely completion of the university construction.
